This site is operated by Travis Hurlock, trading as Travis Hurlock / travishurlock.com ("I", "me"). I'm the data controller for the personal data described below. For anything covered here, email travis@travishurlock.com.
What this site collects, and why
Just browsing
No account is required to browse this site. The one thing loaded automatically, before any cookie choice, is Google Fonts — which discloses your IP address to Google at font-load time. That's the "necessary" cookie category referenced in the banner and the table below. If you choose "Accept all" on that banner, Google Analytics also loads, so I can see overall visitor numbers and where visitors are coming from. It doesn't load if you choose "Necessary only," and nothing you type into this site is ever included in that data — it's aggregate browsing statistics, not personal correspondence.
The white paper / Studio Notes signup
If you use the signup form to get the white paper or join Studio Notes, I collect: your first and last name, your email address, and — only if you choose to add them — your company and job title. This is sent to and stored by Mailchimp, the email platform I use to send the white paper and any future notes. I don't store this data anywhere else, and I don't sell or share it with anyone beyond the processors listed below.
Direct enquiries
The "Let's talk" and CV-request routes on this site open your own email app with a message ready to send — nothing you type there touches this site or gets stored by it. That exchange is then an ordinary email between us, kept as long as any business correspondence normally would be.
Lawful basis
Marketing emails (the white paper and Studio Notes) are sent only on the basis of your explicit, opt-in consent — the checkbox on the signup form is unticked by default, and ticking it is the only thing that adds you to the list. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing from any email, or by emailing me directly.
Cookies
The banner on this site offers two choices: "Necessary only" or "Accept all." Here's what each currently covers:

No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies run on this site, in any state.
Who I share data with
- Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group LLC, trading as Mailchimp / Intuit Mailchimp) — processes and stores signup data (name, email, and any optional company/role) to send the white paper and Studio Notes. Mailchimp is based in the US; transfers are covered by their Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Google Fonts (Google Ireland Ltd.) — serves the typefaces used across this site; your IP address is disclosed to Google at load time as a normal part of that request.
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd.) — only if you chose "Accept all" on the cookie banner. Used to see aggregate visitor numbers, general location and which pages get read; not used to identify you individually.
Nobody else receives data collected through this site. If that changes — an analytics tool, for instance — this notice and the cookie banner will be updated first, not after.
How long data is kept
Signup data is kept in Mailchimp for as long as you remain subscribed, plus a short period after unsubscribing that Mailchimp itself retains for suppression-list purposes (so I don't accidentally re-add you). Direct email correspondence is kept as long as normal business record-keeping requires.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask me to:
- Confirm what data I hold about you, and get a copy of it
- Correct anything that's inaccurate
- Delete your data, where there's no legal reason I need to keep it
- Restrict or object to how it's used
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time — via the unsubscribe link on any email, or by contacting me directly
To exercise any of these, email travis@travishurlock.com. If you're not satisfied with how a request is handled, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
If how this site collects or uses data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised accordingly.
