The brief

Joined commonSENSE Monitoring Solutions in February 2017, eleven months after the company's 2016 launch, as a director and 17.5% shareholder, to lead brand, product design and UX for the company's cloud-based IIoT environmental monitoring platform.

Platform context

Project materials describe the platform as operating to 0.01°C accuracy and supporting the UK's Covid-19 vaccine cold-chain safeguarding effort across AstraZeneca, Pfizer, GSK, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson supply chains, alongside antibody research at Imperial College's Royal School of Mines and the Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Hub. These are reported capabilities and use cases of the client's platform; my own scope was brand, product design and UX.

What I delivered

  • Evolved the brand and product identity for the monitoring platform.
  • Led UX and UI design across desktop, mobile, tablet, smart TV and smartwatch touchpoints.
  • Managed offshore development and production partners across China, Germany, the USA and the UK.
  • Coordinated GDPR, T&Cs and UKAS 17025 compliance with external advisers.

Later concept work

Later proposal-stage work explored an e-commerce experience and the commonSENSE-PRO, -GO and -MOVE product architecture — commonSENSE-PRO (managed B2B, SLA-based, with UKAS-certified annual calibration), commonSENSE-GO (plug-and-play SaaS for smaller operators) and commonSENSE-MOVE (GPS-based mobile monitoring for cold-chain distribution) — including interface design for a companion mobile app. No launch is evidenced in the available project material.

Status2017–2022. Brand, product design and UX delivered for the operational monitoring platform. The later e-commerce and product-tier work is proposal-stage material; no launch is evidenced in the available project material.
